Passenger traffic data from IATA through May indicates solid growth overall

Passenger traffic data from IATA through May indicates solid growth overall, increasing by 6% for the period Jan-May 2016 vs. the same five month period in 2015
Growth varies by major world region and the chart puts it into context of not only growth through May by major region, but also the size of each region
Thus, the mature markets of North America and Europe (which comprise more than 50% of world passenger traffic) has experienced growth of 3.6% and 3.9% respectively
The Middle East has had the strongest growth (11.2%) for the period, but only represents less than 10% of world passenger traffic
Asia Pacific, which is the now the world’s largest region for passenger traffic with about one-third of the world’s traffic, grew 8%
Africa also had strong growth at almost 10% but the region is only 2% of the world while Latin America grew by 3.3% and represents about 5% of the world;
Latin America continues to struggle with a recession in Brazil which is impacting the overall region
From the data, emerging markets particularly in the Asia/Pacific region, the Middle East, and Africa are producing a large portion of passenger traffic growth
