Tony Karafiat joins AVITAS

AVITAS, Inc., a leading aviation consulting firm based near Washington, DC, has announced the addition of Tony Karafiat as Director of Asset Valuation. His duties include the preparation of appraisals, market analysis, aircraft studies, strategic planning, and financial analysis. He brings 14 years of finance and accounting experience, with five of those in the aviation industry.

While at United, Mr. Karafiat was responsible for vendor negotiations, lease, buy, and sale decisions for aircraft and engines, fleet mix analysis, budgeting, and made equity and debt investments in their regional affiliates. He developed business cases in support of facility updates/maintenance footprint optimization, LOPA configuration, insourcing vs outsourcing, baggage handling system updates, and GSE replacement and electrification.

Mr. Karafiat held a Board Observer role at CommuteAir where he participated in discussions involving pilot pay negotiation, construction of a new corporate headquarters, launching a charter business, and opening a maintenance base.

Mr. Karafiat worked for various Fortune 500 companies including AB-InBev, Aon, and Amazon. He provided valuation, technical accounting, and financial analysis of purchase/sale of legal entities, dividends/distributions, preferred share agreements, and debt issuances. He assisted in the launch/closure of craft brew pubs and convenience stores.

Mr. Karafiat began his career spending five years at Deloitte. Responsibilities included financial statement audits, preparation of audit committee materials, SEC reporting, and oversight of pension, tax, valuation, and international component teams.

Mr. Karafiat graduated from Gonzaga University with a BA in Business Administration with Finance and Economics concentrations, as well as a BA in Accounting. Mr. Karafiat holds an active CPA license in the state of Illinois and is a CFA charterholder. This addition to the AVITAS team strengthens its position as a full-service aviation consulting firm, enhancing its capabilities in asset valuation and financial analysis for its clients in the aviation industry.
