The Director, Technical position is located in Chantilly, VA
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
AVITAS is recruiting an outstanding new Director, Technical. The role will report into Tim Scott, SVP Technical. The successful candidate will have a management style and technical competence that generates confidence and respect internally and externally, with the ability to translate complex technical matters into business issues. AVITAS is a highly respected and well-known aviation consulting business and the successful candidate will also have the ability to be involved with both technical and AVITAS’s broader offerings.
In detail, the Director, Technical will be responsible for:
- Managing pre-lease/purchase inspections and maintenance documentation audits
- Building and maintaining customer relationships
- Developing and executing maintenance reserve management, as well as aircraft acquisition and redelivery assistance
- Effectively organizing and managing the use of technical consultants who are working on various projects
- Managing large and complex aircraft fleet technical programs
- Being a spokesperson and representative for the company at conferences, events, and industry organizations
- Negotiating aircraft leases including maintenance reserves and delivery/return conditions
- Preparing work scopes and negotiating contracts for heavy airframe and engine maintenance
- Preparing monthly asset management status reports and approving disbursements from maintenance reserve accounts
- Managing contract technical personnel to ensure aircraft and records meet contract standards

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of 5 years of airline or leasing company experience directly related to the job function
- A strong hands-on technical leadership background
- A deep technical knowledge that earns the respect of both internal and external stakeholders (e.g. clients, service providers, competitors)
- A team player who has the ability to fit into the collegial and family culture that AVITAS holds very important
- Ability to manage large, complex technical projects
- A&P license or equivalent preferred
- Working knowledge of the aircraft and its systems, aircraft records, and federal aviation regulations
- Knowledge of the technical provisions of a lease with the ability to draft, negotiate, interpret, and apply accordingly
- Knowledge of aircraft maintenance programs with the ability to measure reasonableness of maintenance costs
- Customer service focused with the ability to respond professionally, timely, and appropriately to customer requests
- Ability to collaborate across multiple departments to meet customer needs
- Ability to travel to customer as needed and manage multiple projects
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Will have a management style and technical competence that attracts and motivates top talent and generates confidence and respect from all levels of the company and its stakeholders
- Well-versed in Microsoft Office software
- Willingness to pursue ISTAT Certified Appraiser status is a plus
EDUCATION
A Bachelor’s degree is required. An MBA or other graduate degree is desirable.
